Artist's Description

After being heavenly criticized in the 40ties and early 50ties for neglect, the National Park Service, who manages the National Parks, decided in 1955 to upgrade the visitors' experience by improving the facilities and infrastructure of the National parks. This project was funded by congress. It started in 1956 and was to be finished in 1966 for the 50th anniversary of the National Park Service. The project was called "Mission 66" The building in this image is the visitors Center at Flamingo Point in the Everglades National Park and was part of Mission 66. There is also a (closed) gas station and a lodge.
