Description
view of the Sweetwater Strand in the Big Cypress National Preserve. A strand is a natural channel to drain the water from the surrounding higher flat land. Sweetwater Strand is of Loop Road half way between Miami and Naples on the Gulf of Mexico. This image was captured with a 1958 Rolleiflex 3.5E Planar TLR
Big Cypress is adjacent to the Florida Everglades National Park and was originally to be included in the Everglades NP. Due to the Indian reservations, existing hunting licenses, and some powerful families with oil interest on the property, this never happened. As a result, they did the next best thing and made it into a National preserve. This was a whole new concept and something not in existence before the Big Cypress dilemma. The preserve is administered and controlled by the National Park Service.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt about this image fitting that bill. Do consider entry in a juried exhibition. CONGRATULATIONS!
